What is a Dynamic Microphone?

Dynamic mics have several advantages that make them ideal for live vocal applications and for recording amplified instruments. They’re robust, resistant to moisture and can achieve high gain before feedback. The XM8500’s cardioid pickup pattern captures the source signal, such as a guitar amplifier or vocalist, while shunning off-axis sound.

Why the XM8500?

The XM8500 provides an amazing frequency response of 50 Hz to 15 kHz, and includes a two-stage pop filter to minimize breath and pop noises. And with its tough metal construction and sturdy steel windscreen, you can count on it to come through after countless gigs and studio applications. We’ve even included a rugged hard case with a mic clip and stand adapter.

sounds and feels just like an sm58. i am extremely happy with this product, definitely a winner

This was the first microphone I had purchased. I didn’t really have any knowledge of microphones or sound engineering, I simply bought something that had decent reviews and was inexpensive. I didn’t have any complaints with it, but got some Shure SM58 microphones later on and began to use those. Those tended to be a bit nasaly and I had to cut the highs and boost the lows, to the point where it sounded kind of muddy. It was hard to find a good eq. We set up in a new practice space, and I brought out my Behringer 8500, because I could leave it there, and had no intentions of using it live. With minimal eq adjustments, this mic really made my voice sound good. Before adding any effects, I sounded good. I think I will keep the SM58’s for backups and maybe buy a couple more 8500’s.

I have a karaoke / music setup on my third floor with a number of instruments, etc. So I usually have 4 mics that the “crowd” can use for singing along or doing karaoke. Because it’s just drunken friends partying together, I don’t need anything “pro”. These mics sound amazing and are fairly inexpensive. I’ve had ones last 10+ years. You CAN break ’em, trust me. Everyone drops a mic once in a while. But because of the great price, I just chuck it away and order another. Perfect for someone who wants good sound on a budget.

  4. Gaming

Do not let the price fool you, this is an exceptional microphone! For my voice, which is somewhat boomy and nasally, it sounds better than mics like the shure sm58 and rode podmic. All I can say is give it a try! Very low internal noise and very easy to drive. Absolutely amazing microphone!
