Description
The D112 Reimagined
The D112 MkII professional dynamic bass drum microphone features a new integrated flexible mount, while retaining all the sonic strengths that have made it’s predecessor the industry-standard. Over the years the D112 has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the best bass drum microphones ever made, for its high SPL capability, punchy EQ and bulletproof construction.
Delivers Accurate Low Frequencies
The D112 MkII can handle more than 160 dB SPL without distortion. Its large diaphragm has a very low resonance frequency that delivers a solid and powerful response below 100 Hz. Its authoritative low end is complemented by a narrow-band presence boost at 4 kHz that punches through even dense mixes and loud stage volumes with forceful impact. One of the many reasons artists and sound engineers love the D112 MkII is that it requires no additional EQ to sound just right as soon as you bring up the fader. Further refining its performance, the D112 MkII features an integrated hum-compensation coil that keeps noise to an absolute minimum.
In addition to being an exceptional bass drum mic on stage and in the studio, the D112 MkII is an excellent choice for miking electric bass cabinets and trombones.

Being in sound reinforcement for so long I remember when this mic first came out. It’s not only great for Kick (Bass Drum), I find it useful in other areas, also the only mic I know of without pressure limitations (will not distort from too high of Sound Pressure Levels). Also found and like to use these on all of larger drums because they sound even yet larger with these when properly placed when mounted. When mixing make sure you have all your highs and upper mids swept up and maxed for that superior click along with the deep punch! (for different boards, you will have to play a bit to get to the sweet spots for your ultimate click!) With stringed bass buy yourself a really good direct box. Also want these mounted as close to the opposing side of the striking surface without letting them get hit from BD beaters or sticks for even more bass response. It’s the nature of the beast with all cardioid pattern mics. The closer to the inside striking surface, the deeper the bass response. Also many DJ’s like them for the natural high end frequency roll off for smoother and a bassier talking voice.

This mic made a huge difference in the sound of our band the first night we used it, it is so much better than the kick drum mic we had been using. Our overall sound improved a lot, once we had the eq dialed in for a new microphone. We forgot it at home for last Friday night’s gig, and I can tell you, we will never forget it again! It was such a letdown to not have it. It is such a bigger, better kick drum sound that we are going to try another out as a bass guitar microphone. Great mic!
