The AKG D7 reference dynamic vocal microphone creates the subtle and open sound of a condenser capsule with the powerful resonance of a dynamic microphone. The patented dual-layer Varimotion diaphragm can vibrate unhindered, which results in an extraordinarily crisp and clean sound. Decided on getting this D5 just to see what else is available in the market that can make a positive impact for the vocalists in the family. After using for 2 months, everybody is loving the D5 for live performances. Compared to the SM58, the D5 is a little brighter and has much lesser proximity effect. This allows the vocalist to be closer to the mic which provides more detail in the voice to cut through the music.

This is a HOT MIC! You shouldn’t mix this bad boy with sm57/58 because they will get lost in the mix! If you need to be heard this is it. I plugged straight into a Bose roadie system.

Sounds GREAT! The sound quality is amazing. My voice sounds identical on the mic to what it sounds like in person. My audience (I use this for a radio show/podcast I do) noticed the clarity of my voice. There was definitive difference in the bass in my voice – there’s a lot less on this mic that the previous one I used. This was rectifiable with my mixer board but if you want a deep resonant tone this might not be the mic for you – but if you want great clarity and sound and seemingly sturdy quality, this is a great mic. I also compared this mic with the Shure SM58 sound wise, and I preferred this mic over that one sound wise – it’s not as muddy – it’s clearer and that’s the sound I was going for so I bought this one. It was a bonus that it costs less.

Much better sound quality than the mic I was replacing. On off switch is convenient, comfortable to hold and sing with. It was recommend from a friend and doesn’t disappoint.
