Description

What is an AMT?

AMT is short for Air Motion Transformer, which stands tall as a unique style of transducer in the world of speaker drivers. The AMT found in the speakers from Dayton Audio utilizes a folded Kapton ribbon diaphragm. This allows more air to move through the diaphragm with less effort and distortion. This creates a purer and satisfyingly dimensional sound as compared to a traditional dome-style tweeter.

Don’t judge a speaker by its size! The Dayton Audio B452-AIR 4-1/2″ bookshelf speaker is the smallest in the Dayton Audio family, but the sound is big. A newly-designed 4-1/2″ polypropylene cone woofer with 4-layer voice coil achieves excellent balance and listenability when combined with the 1″ AMT tweeter, for exceptionally rich and detailed sound from a small speaker. While cheap speakers use plastic enclosure parts to cut costs, the inexpensive B452-AIR uses a sturdy wood-composite cabinet that minimizes resonance and enhances warmth without sacrificing clarity. The B452-AIR bookshelf speaker fits into a space only 5.5″ wide and less than 6″ deep, making it the perfect choice for desktop listening, or compact surround speakers in a home theater surround-sound system. A built-in keyhole wall hanger bracket makes it a breeze to wall-mount the B452-AIR in any desired location. For a room-filling listening experience with deeper bass that rivals larger full-sized speakers, the B452-AIR speaker also pairs perfectly with any of the excellent Dayton Audio powered subwoofers. Anywhere you enjoy music, the balanced sound of the B452-AIRs add a new dimension of affordable enjoyment. I bought these just to tear the AMTs out for a project, ended up really enjoying the sound from these especially after I added in a 6 inch sub to round out the low end. That would be the only thing they lack but the truth is that a 4″ speaker is not capable of moving the volume of air for the “punch” some are looking for, however I didn’t buy these for that nor did I expect it. I have since ordered a few more sets in the 6.5 just to pillage more tweeters but I am leaving a set in one piece for backup speakers during rebuilds of my normal set up. Also I added in a linkwitz-reiley 2 way passive at a better point and slope and they sound even better. So from an audiophile I have to say these speakers are easily worth the money but if you are buying them to replace your KEFS or b&ws or whatever then it’s on you for making a bad purchase not the product. They will never take center stage in my listening room but they sure as hell make backyard or garage tunes sound much better and at this price point they are very affordable and low risk speakers to have a few sets sitting around.

Awesome. Doesn’t make much since to get these over the other 6-1/2 but the form factor fit my setup and they sound great. Swapped in the Dayton nd-105s in just for fun and the sound great with more low end. Letting these break in to see what they do.

Got these to use as my back 2 of my 5.1 setup. Their not gonna shake the room but are plenty loud and have good range. Dayton in general punch well above their price range.

First of all let me say this , these are 40-50 dollar a pair so keep that in mind. My Problem is the tweeter is front and center and dialed in to show off itself at the expense of how bad the rest of it is and only magnifies that and its shortcomings. Hey there 50 bucks though don’t do too well nearfield as the amt can be overbearing. That being said if your coming from computer speakers these are a big upgrad. Decent for youtube vids I suppose and light music. Comparing these to the smallest peachtree single 3 inch driver speakers and these left me disappointed. Mabey ok at 35 shipped wait till Christmas or spend more.
